Our most commonly asked questions.

  • Mississauga Humane Society is a registered charity that is run by dedicated volunteers. We receive no public funding and have to raise our own funds to take care of the animals that we rescue. We do not have a shelter, and we do not have paid staff.

    As an all-volunteer run rescue: 

    • MHS does not have the authority to enforce city bylaws

    • MHS does not have the authority to investigate cases of neglect or cruelty

    • MHS does not have the authority to remove animals from owners/homes

    • MHS does not have the authority to take animals into care through a 3rd party contact

    The City of Mississauga Animal Services is funded by the city and has paid staff, building and vehicles. City of Mississauga Animal Services is located at:

  • MHS rescues homeless animals only.

    If your animal was adopted through MHS and needs to be rehomed we will assist with the rehoming process. Please contact us at 1-905-271-0883

  • Yes, our charity number is: 
89912 7526 RR0001. We guarantee tax receipts for donations of $20 or more.



  • No, MHS does not currently have a shelter. We operate through a network of volunteer foster homes.

  • As a charity we have to raise our own funds to take care of the animals that we rescue. Our main forms of fundraising are donations and membership fees.



  • A gift to MHS is a beacon of hope for the animals in our care. We are only able to provide support because of the generous donations from our community.

  • Yes, as a registered charity we are able to offer tax receipts for donations. We guarantee tax receipts for donations of $20 or more.

  • Yes, we are open to corporate sponsorships or partnerships, and donations from corporate fundraising efforts.

  • Legacy giving, also known as planned giving, is a way to support our organization through a gift in your will or estate plan. By including us in your will, you leave a lasting impact and help ensure our mission continues for future generations.
